On this page
PawHonest is an independent blog about at-home dog training, behaviour and dog products, written by Megan Hartley. This policy explains, without legal padding, what happens to your data when you read this site or write to me. It is written to meet the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and it applies to visitors anywhere in the world.
1. The 30-second version
In short
- This site sets no cookies of its own. There is no analytics, no tracking pixel and no advertising script on PawHonest as of the date above.
- The only personal data I hold is what you actively send me โ your name, email and message if you use the contact form or subscribe to the newsletter.
- I never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to anyone, in any form.
- Affiliate links take you to other companies, and those companies set their own cookies once you land there. That is their processing, not mine.
- You can ask me to show you, correct or delete anything I hold, at any time, free of charge โ just write to me.
2. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for this website is PawHonest, operated by Megan Hartley. For anything in this policy โ questions, requests, complaints โ the contact address is contact@pawhonest.com, or use the contact page.
3. What is collected
There are two categories, and one of them is much smaller than most sites you visit.
| Category | What it includes | How it reaches me |
|---|---|---|
| Data you give me | Your name, email address and the content of your message; your name and email if you subscribe to the newsletter | Only through a form you fill in and submit yourself |
| Server logs | IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, date and time | Recorded automatically by the web host (Hostinger) for every website, as part of running a server |
That is the complete list. There is no account to create, no profile built about you, and no behavioural tracking on this site.
4. Why it is used
- To reply to the message you sent me.
- To send the newsletter and any free material you asked for, if you subscribed. No newsletter is running at the time of writing โ the free download is available directly, without giving an email address.
- To keep the site running and secure, and to investigate abuse or technical faults (server logs).
- To meet a legal obligation, in the rare case one applies.
Your email is never used to contact you about something you didn't ask for, and it is never passed to a brand or advertiser.
5. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
| Basis | When it applies |
|---|---|
| Consent | Newsletter subscription and the free downloads. You give it by ticking the box, and you can withdraw it at any time. |
| Legitimate interest | Replying to a message you sent, keeping the server secure, and preventing abuse. |
| Legal obligation | Retaining records where the law requires it. |
6. Cookies and tracking
As of the date at the top of this page, PawHonest sets no cookies at all. No analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no social media pixels. You can verify this yourself in your browser's developer tools.
Two things are worth being clear about:
- Affiliate links. When you click a link to a shop or a product, that company sets cookies on their domain to track that the visit came from here. That processing is governed by their privacy policy, not this one. The affiliate disclosure explains which links these are.
- Future advertising. If display advertising is added to this site in future, it will introduce advertising cookies. When that happens, a consent banner will appear before any such cookie is set for visitors in the UK, the EEA and other regions that require it, and this policy and the cookie policy will be updated on the same day.
How to control cookies anyway
Every browser lets you block, limit or delete cookies in its settings, and that applies to the cookies set by the sites you reach through links here. Blocking cookies will not break anything on PawHonest, because this site doesn't use any.
7. Third parties that process data
| Service | What it does | What it sees |
|---|---|---|
| Hostinger | Hosts the website | Server logs, including IP addresses |
| Email provider | Delivers the newsletter and the free downloads, once this is live | Your name and email, plus whether you opened an email |
| Affiliate networks | Track referrals from links you click | Only what happens after you leave this site, on their own domains |
Because these providers may operate servers outside your country, your data may be transferred internationally. Where that happens for visitors in the UK or the EEA, it is done under the safeguards those laws require, such as standard contractual clauses.
8. Selling your data
The commitment
Your data is not for sale.
PawHonest has never sold personal data, does not sell it, and will not sell it โ to advertisers, partners or anyone else, in any form. Under the CCPA this also means PawHonest does not "share" personal data for cross-context behavioural advertising. There is nothing for a California resident to opt out of, because it does not happen.
9. How long data is kept
| Type | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Contact form messages | Up to 12 months, then deleted |
| Newsletter subscriber data | For as long as you stay subscribed |
| Newsletter data after you unsubscribe | 6 months, then deleted |
| Server logs | As long as the host retains them under its own policy |
10. Security
The whole site is served over HTTPS, so what passes between your browser and the server is encrypted. Access to the hosting account is protected by a password and, where the provider supports it, a second factor. No system is perfect: if a security incident occurs that puts your personal data at real risk, affected people will be notified, and the relevant supervisory authority will be informed within the timeframe the law sets.
11. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me to:
- Confirm whether I hold any data about you, and give you a copy of it.
- Correct anything that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete what I hold.
- Restrict or object to how it is used.
- Send it to you, or to someone else, in a portable format.
- Withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time โ every email also has a one-click unsubscribe link.
These are the rights the GDPR gives people in the UK and the EEA, and the CCPA gives residents of California the equivalent rights to know, to delete and to opt out. I apply all of them to everyone, regardless of where you live, because maintaining two standards would be worse for you and more work for me.
To use any of them, write to contact@pawhonest.com. I may need to ask you one or two questions to confirm it is really your data before I act. You will get an answer within 30 days, free of charge. If you are in the UK or the EEA and you are not satisfied with how I handled it, you have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
12. Children
This site is written for adults who own dogs. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent me their details, write to me and I will delete them.
13. Links to other sites
PawHonest links out to shops, affiliate platforms, research papers and professional bodies. Once you click, you are on someone else's site, under their rules. I have no control over what they collect and I am not responsible for their practices โ it is worth reading the privacy policy of any site where you enter personal details.
14. Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated when the site changes in a way that affects your data โ most likely when the newsletter goes live or if advertising is added. The version in force is always the one on this page, with the date shown at the top. Material changes will be noted here rather than made quietly.
